Makara Sankranti Celebration at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple of Wellington (SVWT):

Makara Sankranti, a joyous and auspicious festival, marks the sun's transition into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara Rashi). Celebrated across India, this festival signifies the end of winter and the beginning of longer days, symbolizing new beginnings and the harvest season. It is a time for thanksgiving to nature for bountiful crops and prosperity.

The Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple of Wellington (SVWT) is delighted to invite devotees to join the Makara Sankranti celebrations, including a unique community Pongal event and Vishesha Pooja. The festivities will be as follows:

• 10:00 AM: Community Pongal - Engage in the joyous preparation of Pongal, a traditional sweet dish made from newly harvested rice, milk, and jaggery, symbolizing abundance and prosperity.
• 11:00 AM: Vishesha Pooja - Participate in the special pooja, a devotional offering to the deities, invoking blessings for the year ahead.
• 11:30 AM: Archana Seva - A personalized ritual where devotees can offer prayers and receive blessings from the deities.
• 12:00 PM: Mahadeeparadhana and Theertha Prasadam - The ceremony culminates with the Mahadeeparadhana, an offering of light to the deities, followed by the distribution of Theertha Prasadam, sanctified offerings.
